the metallic boxes as characters made me think this is some kind of satire at first (rusty's robots having fun imposting star trek or something), but from the description I gather this effect is unintended
while modelling of scenery and characters is not impressive, but the lighting sure is nice

The sounds detract from this animation more than they add. I played it again with the sound off and liked it a lot better. Next time, cut the sound track and focus your efforts on improving the animation--you've got a good start in that department.
