The ship is well done, but I feel that the surroundings suffered a little from lack of attention. I also have a question of scale; how long is the ship in relation to the people? Judging by the sails of this ship, I expected it to be comparable to a clipper, which were only about 160 feet long.

Very good work on the boat! The water needs some work though. You should use
more layers of waves to give it a more 'sea'-look. The lighting also seems odd.

From jerry@hoboes.com:
Very nice. The land in the background looks a bit odd; too blocky at the top? Or perhaps just too photorealistic a texture compared to the rest of the scene. And the ship looks like it is awfully high in the water. Is that a lighthouse or a lens flare in the middle of the scene?

Very nice job with the water and foam.

Use of a semi-transparent texture for the ocean would have earned you a "20" technical score.
Breathtaking otherwise.

The sails are to reflective, not ambient enough but they furl
interestingly. The near water is not an ocean type in any
sense. You have one of the better hulls I have seen if not
up there with the best.

From bsieker@techfak.uni-bielefeld.de:
Quite good modelling on the ship, but the water does not at all look like
water. There will only be white in the open see on very stormy, and then very
ragged, and sharp-edged waves, not on the light ripple shown here. Likewise,
shadows on clear water are hardly visible.
Also, surprisingly, the foamy parts of the water are reflective.
There also appear to be more than one light source and one is given to wonder
what they are out on the sea.

Sea is a very dificult subject, but that's a very good try.

Really good ship's hull. Water texture seems strangely oily.

From davidwilkinson@cwcom.net:
This image has a lovely 'art nouveau' quality. The figures look out of scale to
the ship.

Very pleasing image. Well done.

From bobfranke@halcyon.com:
Very nice job modeling the hull of the ship and I like the
sails. Is the ship really that big. The sailor on the
bowsprit seems kind of small.

From r@ppp20.rtn.net.mx:
this is a beautiful image, maybe a more turbulent normal for the water, and scaling it down should make it EVEN MORE realistic
Notable for textures, lighting, modelling, composition

I liked this one...but I'm wondering why the anchor seems to be floating in mid-air. Also the sails aren't tesselated very highly, it seems.
