Good choice, and I like the images hanging around the scene. You might want to up the "intervals" on your smoke, although that will of course increase the rendering time.

The grass and tree textures could use some work as well; they look more like carpeting than natural.

In theory a nice idea, but the final image has a rather boring perspective,
and very unnatural looking trees. The test stand itself is quite good, but
lacks some texture. Sure it wasn't all that uniformly grey. The rocket itself
is totally featureless, because it is totally black. To make black objects
look less flat, use a very dark grey, blue, or brown,but not (0,0,0) black.
The "smoke" is so grainy, that it looks more like sand. I would also assume
that some kind of flame would be visible somewhere.

Framing elements is a good idea, but the way you're 
doing it, it falls a little short...
Also, the stand needs texturing work, and more in-depth 
modelling; maybe hand-coding
in Povray would be easier in that case...

Good concept.  There is a lot of detail in the platform 
but it still needs a bit more.  Also the  rocket seem a bit 
flat.  The simple modeling of the hills would work better 
if they were obscured with some atmosphere of fog.
