IMAGE DESCRIPTION:
Based on the tallest buildings in the world Petronis Towers,
Kuala Lampaur,
(according to the international architects governing body), this image
demonstrates what a nice
fisheye shot from 2 meters above the topping ball on the spire would look like.
Shot emulates
about a 5mm fisheye on a 35mm camera (140 degree spread). Just the classic city
highrise shot --
except from the top <grin>. Uses focal blur instead of antialiasing.

DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED:
tower models created in Moray using
CSG from a
cross section in Scientific American article. Details of railings and
"sky-bridge" gleaned
from web images. Background imagemap is patched together from numerous chunks
of air photos
(1 meter per pixel resolution) gathered from www.terraserver.microsoft.com and
stitched
together (and blended / touched up) in PSP. Initial camera and model placement
was in Moray, then
exported and code hand-tweaked for fisheye lens. As a final fix, the
groundplane was converted
to a large diameter hemisphere (instead of a large flat "cube" )to emphasize the
fish-eye effect.
imagemap is not included in .zip because of size. I tried bot AA and focal blur
and had better luck
with JPEG'd focal blur instead of AA.
