lead bird is at the intersection of formation. Formation flies in direction
that the "v" points.

color as the sun glare would help.

Antialiasing could have done marvels to this image.
You used a collage of two images, the background and the foreground, and this
can be seen too clearly. The foreground looks separate from the background and
they don't look as part of the same scene. This can specially be seen in the
farthest trees.
All the birds are identical.
Deducing from your description it seems that the final image is not the direct
result of a rendering, but a collage of two images made with a non-renderer
software. This reduces your score significantly since it's against the rules.

to the foreground details would still have given this image a bit more value. The
foreground is unnaturally dark even with the sun far behind the trees...

The mountainscape and the sky are very impressive.  
The trees and flowers look good, but I think the 
simplicity of the textures on them works against the 
realism of the background.  The birds seem to stand out 
a little too much against the sky, and I'm not sure their 
positioning is realistic (I think the heads should all be 
pointing toward the point of the v-shape of the 
formation.)

Quite serene.  Spectacular skies.
Goodt integration of various tools to create the image.
A few flaws catch my eye: the blue trees in the distance seem to be 
floating, and the birds all have the exact same wing position.  And, of 
course, the triangular leaves.

Artistic - photorealistic sky & mountains with Impressionist Era style trees and bushes,
   different and nicely done.  But the blue distant trees in the centre appear to
   be floating in mid air, detracting from the images 
Technical - a lot of work with good results, especially the randomizing of tree leaf
   colour.  only flaw is floating in mid air distant cntr trees (blue ones) in that
   they are on the shadowed side of the mountain but are not dark and shadowed them
   selves
Concept - very nice interpretation of wilderness
