IMAGE DESCRIPTION:

A laboratory, according to one of the definitions that the Random House
Dictionary cites, is a place where chemicals, medicine or the like are
manufactured. Illegal methamphetamine, or speed, is often made in a place like
this. Rural, and away from neighbors, this is a laboratory than can be
abandoned quickly.

DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED:

I had intended to render this scene in pov, using and old version of max to
compose the scene quickly, but the scanline renderer seemed to give me an
atmosphere that was consistent with my original vision, so I finished the scene
using it.

Rhino was used to model the trailer, furniture, tires, rocks and various items,
and SPatch for the weeds. The other vehicles and some of the texture maps (all
suffering various degrees of alteration) came from the Internet and the CD
provided with 3Dstudio.

Texture and bump maps for the trailer were created in PhotoShop, and 3 different
reflection maps were created for the cycle, the truck, and the trailer using
JPEG's created in Max, PhotoShop, and a photo I took with a digital camera.

The stars are small bits of geometry with a little self-illumination, and there
are only 5 spot lights in the scene.

As I had only bits of time available to work on this project during lunch break
and evenings, I would like to thank the unknown authors of the models and maps
that made it possible to finish this scene in the allotted time.
