IMAGE DESCRIPTION:

The inspiration for this picture comes from my many road trips to outback
Mudgee. At the end of these 4 hour trips, my windscreen was usually covered
with insects and I remember one particularly large insect that spread itself on
the windscreen and half scared the life out of me.

DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED:

I started by modelling the car interior itself. Outside the interior looks like
a box and the front of the car is pretty bare as well. I modelled the hands off
my own by scanning my hand, making some polygons, extruding, then using
subdivision mode (metanurbs) to finish the organic look. The sky is simply a
dome with a sky like picture mapped onto it. The trees and plants are pretty
simple as once blurred they lose all their detail. I got a dragonfly model from
3DCafe to use as a basis for my own model which is infintely simpler (and not
anywhere near as anatomically correct) but does the job. I exaggerated some
proportions to give the splat effect. Not as effective as I had hoped and I
would have liked to spend more time on it. The windscreen has a transparency
map applied and the windscreen crack is actually another object on the outer
surface of the windscreen. I wanted the windscreen to look "dirtier" but all
the things I tried didn't quite work due to it being transparent but I was
running low on time.
This is my second entry and I think I have improved since my first one, although
I still feel I am way behind some of the extremely impressive entries that are
being submitted.

I have not submitted any source files as the zip file came to 7Mb but am happy
to give models, texture maps and/or scene files to anyone who wants them.

Hope you like it.
