I like the concept that you chose for the image.  One improvement I would
suggest is for the fire at the back of the missile:  Instead of just using a
cone to contain the fire, place a sphere to cap the end of the cone.  If you
difference an equivalent sphere with the end of the missile, this should
eliminate the effect where the glow "fades away" where it meets the missile on
the side facing the camera.

Has a nice feel which supports the interpretation of the 
topic.  The dark city makes a nice background.  The 
rockets seem a little on the simplistic side, although the 
media effects are a nice touch.
