a little work on the top edge of the candle would set this off nicely.

The concept works.  However, the image would be improved by more attention to details.  For instance, the candles need a more realistic texture that emulates translucency.

Glad to see your first entry into the contest.  I wanted to make it a point to provide some feedback, but for a first entry it is pretty good!  I think the shadow on the right hand side is a bit dark.  Even in low light situations there is some ambient light reflected from the environment so no shadow should be completely dark. I would have preferred the whole image be a bit brighter, but definately keep with the yellow/orange color of the lighting.
