An interesting concept.  The textures need the most work in this image.  An image map consisting of satellite photography (planet map) would probably work best for the Earth, and a little media for an atmosphere.  Procedural clouds on a sphere above the ground is a good approach, though.  How about a little more detail on the elevators?

I like the concept very much. But from looking at your image itīs difficult to guess whatīs itīs about. But I understand it is difficult to find a suitable viewpoint to show these things clearly.
